I’m Cristina Evans—wife, partner, best friend, and mom to three amazing kids (plus one cat). I have two wonderful adult children—one married, the other in college—and a younger one still in primary school. She’s a bundle of energy, curiosity, and boundless imagination. Honestly, she’s the little gift the universe sent to complete our family.
My Journey into Maternal Health
My journey into the maternal health field began with my own experiences as a mother. When I gave birth, I felt confident and empowered, which I knew was a gift. But many new parents I met didn’t have the same experience. I learned that many felt unheard, and far too often, they left their births feeling deflated. This wasn’t acceptable to me, so I decided to do something about it.
Experience & Training
In my search for better ways to support families during this transformative time, I discovered Doulas of North America (DONA). Something clicked as I read about the work doulas do, and I knew supporting families in their journey into parenthood was my path. Supporting a friend through her birth solidified that decision, and in 2012, I completed my DONA birth doula training. From there, I began attending births, and in 2019, I became a community doula with Urban Baby Beginnings.
Shifting Focus: Pregnancy & Postpartum Care
For the past 12 years, I’ve worked in maternal health, starting as a birth doula, which I absolutely loved. A few years ago, I shifted my focus to pregnancy and postpartum care, which has become my true passion. Today, I work virtually, allowing me to support families from anywhere. While I will always cherish my time in the birth room, I’m currently enjoying the balance of offering “everything but the birth.” This approach allows me to stay connected to my passion while being more present for my family—a true win-win for all of us.
Why I Do This Work
Being a doula is about more than just birth—it’s about the entire journey. It’s about supporting the people who will care for the new life, nurturing them, and strengthening their bond. This connection can build their confidence as new parents and lay the foundation for a healthy, loving family. I believe that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserves access to compassionate, non-judgmental care. Supporting families of all kinds and honoring their unique needs is at the heart of what I do.
Virtual Support Nationwide
We recently relocated to the Farmington Valley area of Connecticut, but my work in maternal health remains just as connected and far-reaching as ever. With over 12 years of experience supporting growing families, I now offer virtual pregnancy and postpartum care to clients nationwide. Though I have deep ties to Richmond, VA, my support is available wherever you are. Whether you're preparing for birth, navigating postpartum recovery, or adjusting to life with a newborn, I’m here to help.
